  • The Florida Everglades is a unique living system totally dependent upon water that must be of the right quality and in the right abundance. From the cypress swamp it flows, less than a foot deep and as much as fifty miles wide, toward the Gulf of Mexico. A rich variety of animal and plant life abounds. The Everglades is also the scene of an unresolved struggle between the needs of man and the needs of nature.
