The mighty Colorado River no longer flows to the sea. It is being used up. The river gets 85% of its water from the region around its source, the Rockies. A few miles from the source, it is stopped by an artificial lake and diverted through tunnels out onto the eastern side of the mountains to serve Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins, and into the Platte, the Missouri and, eventually, the Mississippi, without returning to the Colorado basin. Yet there is still plenty of water from tributaries. Where does the rest of the Colorado River go?
