  • The autotrophic nutrition of cyanobacteria is presented in comparison to similar processes in higher plants, but the differences in photosynthetic organelles is clearly demonstrated. Chemosynthesis is illustrated for nitrogen-fixing monerans. Discusses various forms of heterotropic nutrition, especially saprophytic and parasitic life habits of some bacteria. ATP production during fermentation and aerobic respiration is discussed. The concepts of obligate and facultative anaerobes are introduced in the context of anaerobic respiration. The beneficial and disease-producing species of anaerobic monerans are discussed.
