Mrs. Owens speaks of her and her husband's early studies of carnivores in the natural habitat of the Kalahari Desert. After seven years they moved to Zambia where they became intensely involved in protecting the elephant from poachers. In spite of corrupt officials at every level of government, the Owens offered the villagers a chance to set up "small industries" as an alternative to poaching. She discusses their personal lives and the international ban on the sale of ivory.
