6537HUNT, THE* (LA CAZA)HUNT, THE* (LA CAZA)1966b & w85 minvhs (Directed by Carlos Saura; with Ismael Merlo, Alfredo Mayo) Presents a harsh drama about four men who go rabbit hunting one Sunday afternoon. The hunt however, evoles into a taut battle of nerves which opens old wounds for three of the men who are veterans of the Spanish Civil War, the hunting ground itself a former battleground of that 30-year-old conflict. As their mood gradually changes; bitterness succeeds cordiality, and after one of the men has deliberately killed a ferret, the three men pointlessly kill each other. Saura freely indulges in brutality, but not simply for shock effect as he offers insight into the minds of the characters.
