7303VIKINGS IN AMERICAVIKINGS IN AMERICA1995color55 minvhs (Nova series) It was the end of the 8th Century and the beginning of a new era. The people of Scandinavia, born in a place where land and sea merged, set out to conquer both. The inspiration for the Vikings westward exploration was totally different from their ravages south and eastward across Europe. They were searching for a more hospitable environment in which to settle, raise crops and families. NOVA traces their migration from the mainland to Iceland, Greenland, Baffin Island, Labrador, and finally Vinland and L'Anse aux Meadows. Examines what archaeologists and other researchers have found and how the history of the discovery of the New World began. (Donated by W. A. Douglas Jackson, Canadian Studies)
